Ingredients: 1/2 cup frozen avocado ($1.61); 1 Tbsp agave ($0.14); 1/2 frozen ripe banana ($0.41); 1/2 cup OJ ($0.60); 1 Tbsp lime juice ($0.04)

This avocado smoothie is my latest obsession. Avocado is packed with healthy fats and is the secret to an ultra-rich, dessert-like smoothie!

Blend

Blend ingredients together until smooth. Serve ice cold!

I forgot to say that those diced bits of frozen avocado are also perfect for salads, and to garnish our favorite tortilla soup. While they can be added to soup from a frozen state, for salad, a short thaw is best.

I often freeze avocado--I adore avocado toast, but what to do with the other half? I dice, freeze on a flat pan for a few hours and then dump into a plastic bag. Typically, the bag collects a few leftover avocados, and when I have enough I generally use the frozen bits for guac, but this is another great idea. I always freeze bananas, too, when they start to get too ripe. Same routine--slice, freeze on a flat surface, and dump into a freezer bag. Another tip--Aldi and Walmart always have inexpensive avocados. I buy smaller ones, both because they are cheap, and the size is most convenient for me.

I always check this website early in the day--made one of these smoothies this morning, but had no orange juice and used apricot nectar instead. Because of the sweetness of the juice and the bananas, I skipped the agave syrup--which I do like, a lot. Maple syrup or honey would both be good substitutions, but I love the wilder flavor of the agave. The smoothie was delicious and probably cost me about half of the prices you listed.
