Step 2

Preheat oven to 325°F.

Step 3

Rinse brisket and place in roasting pan.

Step 4

Rub paprika, basil, salt and pepper into meat. Scatter onions and garlic over meat.

Step 5

In a medium bowl, mix together ketchup, wine, and water. Pour over brisket.

Step 6

Cover pan tightly with aluminum foil, tenting so the foil does not touch the meat.

Step 7

Bake, covered, at 325°F for 3 hours, or until a digital thermometer inserted into the center of the brisket reads 190°F.

Step 8

Let stand at least 15 minutes before slicing against the grain. Serve warm, with pan juices poured over the meat or served on the side.
