Step 1

Heat 1 cup water and 1 cup packed light or dark brown sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat until hot, but not boiling, 3 to 5 minutes. Stir occasionally until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Step 2

Remove from heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature. Transfer to a glass jar or bottle and refrigerate.
