Step 1
In large saute pan over medium heat, combine onions and oil.
Step 2
Cook and stir frequently for 40-50 minutes. Stir every 4-5 minutes in the beginning and more frequently towards the end to prevent burning.
Step 3
If the onions begin to darken too much at any time, adjust heat to a lower temp. Cooking time and heat may vary depending on type of pan and stove.
Step 4
Sprinkle with salt when the onions are almost done and are reaching a deep brown color.
Step 5
Once onions have reached the desired color, remove from heat and refrigerate in an airtight container.
