Cheesy Pizza Rolls

pasta sauce

mozzarella cheese, divided

pepperoni (about 64 slices)

sausage,

Parmesan cheese

basil,

red pepper flakes, optional

Preheat oven to 400°. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into a 16x10-in. rectangle. Brush with pasta sauce to within 1/2 in. of edges.

Sprinkle with 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, if desired, sausage and Parmesan. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side; pinch seam to seal. Cut into 8 slices. Place in a greased 9-in. cast-iron skillet or greased 9-in. round baking pan, cut side down.

Bake 20 minutes; sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese. Bake until golden brown, 5-10 minutes longer. If desired, serve with minced fresh basil and crushed red pepper flakes.

I baked this for a sleepover party. I thought it would be more fun than just ordering pizza. I appreciate the previous review that suggests  a little longer baking time. I just got my first cast iron skillet and am not too comfortable using it yet!I made "surpeme" style pizza, as requested by the teenagers. Pepperoni,  sausage, onions, mushrooms, and peppers. I might saute the veggies next time.Very good, and a nice way to get me started using my new pan!

Very good and quick to make.  I loved using the cast iron skillet because the bottom got nice and crispy.  The only change I made was sprinkling some Italian Seasoning on top of the pizza sauce because I did not have fresh basil.

Everyone loved these! I like how super customizable they are. Would be super easy to fill with your favorite pizza toppings.

Delicious and easy! Even the 2 year old and 6 year old gobbled them up! Here's what I learned:  I used a loaf of frozen bread dough and it worked great. When you put them in the GREASED pan make sure the cut side is up/down. The end pieces will be cut side up. Give them some space in your pan because they will expand while baking. I followed the baking times as written and it wasn't enough. I have an oven thermometer and kept a consistent 400 degrees. I recommend baking 30 minutes, sprinkle with remaining cheese, and bake 5-10 minutes more. They were still a bit doughy inside but oh so good!  Served them with a Caesar salad for a wonderful and simple family pleasing meal!

My bread dough was a bit old so it did not expand well.  Great flavor.

I made these for our Super Bowl party.  While they were tasty, it took a lot longer to get them to brown like in the picture than the time stated.  They also were not that attractive.  I'm would almost rather make a homemade pizza.
