Chiles Rellenos Squares

Monterey Jack cheese

cheddar cheese

(4 ounces each) chopped green chiles, drained

eggs, room temperature

2% milk

all-purpose flour

I made these for the first time tonight for a dinner party.  I planned to serve as an appetizer, but ended up swerving as a side with ribs and fruit salad.  Everyone loved and wanted the recipe, which is super easy

<p>Made this last night and it was delicious.  I did end up having to use more of the egg mixture because I made a larger batch.  Everyone who tried it really enjoyed it.</p>

<p>This recipe makes a wonderful party food. Cut into small squares and serve on a platter. Serving at room temperature is fine, alongside a tasty picante sauce for dipping of course! </p>

I knew I wanted to add a little kick to this after reading all the reviews so I used Pepper Jack in place of Monterey Jack cheese. I had a couple of poblano peppers I had bought for another recipe but not used. (I had never bought them before. The microwave method of removing the skins was disappointing)  There wasn't much left to them after trying to scrape the skins off but I threw them in along with a 7 oz. can of chilies and a couple tablespoons of diced jalapenos. I really liked it and my husband LOVED it. Next time I might double the egg topping mixture.

Mark, In Karen's defense.  I have trouble seeing all the ingredients in recipes on this website from my phone. I have noticed it several times.  I have to pull them up on my desktop to see everything.  The adds crowd the screen and block some of the second column.  I can't wait to try this recipe.

I was leery of this recipe because of the amount of cheese, but made it without changes and my family loved it. If I do tinker, I may add a layer of parboiled sliced potatoes, to make a sort of scallop potato Rellenos.

Easy and fantastic. I have a recipe for shrimp rellenos, which is time consuming! I followed the recipe and added shrimp tossed with a little Cajun seasoning after adding the chilies and topped with the cheeses. I always have a bag of Mexican Cheeses, using that made this recipe quick, delicious. Definitely will made again.

I follow this recipe but top it with El Pato tomato sauce .   It give it more flavor.

I must be missing something -- because I tried this recipe and followed it to the letter and this was not good. My qualms are thus: the green chilies alone are not enough seasoning. This is just cheese and peppers? Nothing else to add flavor? Then, the egg and flour combo just ended up making it feel like a bad breakfast casserole.   I tend to go through a process with recipes, make it once following the recipe exactly and then tweak what I thought didn't work. This recipe won't make it to the second stage though. It just didn't even come close to feeling like a promising dish.

This was good, not great. Next time maybe I'll add diced onions between the cheese and chilis using whole canned chilis opened flat in a single  layer. Then maybe add a little of the chili juice to the egg mixture. Also, for Christmas brunch make in an 8inch by 12 inch baking pan increasing ingredients to accommodate the size change. (15-20 for brunch-big family;~)] Also, serve with sour cream and salsa for toppings. I know these changes aren't chili rellano-like but add flavor and texture.

I am pre-diabetic, so I am really watching my carb intake.  This is so easy, very tasty and a real treat for me. (my husband loves it too).  Really great appetizer.

I have tried this recipe.It is the best if you like chili rellenos and they are so easy to make.

Would give 0 stars, but can't because I'm unable to make!! Wanted to try but can't because of missing ingredient(s).  Directions say to mix flour with milk, etc., but not on ingredients list....how much?  This is 2nd time I've found this and am begining to wonder how many other recipes on which this is occuring, I'm becoming very leery of trying anything from this site.

I have not made this yet but love chili rellenos and am excited to prepare it. I am curious: a couple of you mentioned having it as an appetizer. How does that work?  Small squares? As a dip?
