This rich, healthy chocolate shake recipe is dairy-free and gets its creaminess from avocado instead of ice cream. If you aren't avoiding dairy, you can use regular low-fat milk and any type of semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips in place of the nondairy chocolate chips.

Chocolate Avocado Shake

avocado,

vanilla almond milk vanilla milk

cocoa powder

brown sugar

nondairy semisweet chocolate chips, melted (see Tip)

vanilla extract,

ice cubes

Scoop avocado into a blender; add milk, cocoa, brown sugar (or maple syrup), melted chocolate and vanilla. Pulse and puree until smooth. Add ice and puree until thick and frosty.


Fat Grams Wrong? I was thinking about making this for an after school snack until I saw each serving has 23 g of fat. How could this be? An avocado has 22 g of fat on average and the other ingredients have very little fat. A total of 2 or 3 grams. This makes 2 servings...so now that I know it is really only 12 g of fat per serving I may make it.

good but not creamy or sweet enough as the recipe stands I'm disappointed. I had to add in another half of an avocado to get it to what I would consider creamy and it required a couple more tblsps of sugar to get it sweet enough. Maybe my blender did't cut up the sugar well enough or maybe I should try to melt the sugar with a teensy bit of water so it will dissolve b/c once the ice is in there I taste bits of frozen chocolate and sugar.

Loved it! This was really good easy to make tastes great. I could drink this almost every day. It's easier to blend the melted chocolate in without the avocado so blend without the avocado and ice; then blend in the avocado and finally the ice. Yummy! Pros: Easy to make tastes great

Tasty Treat I used the dairy substitutes (skim milk regular semi-sweet chocolate chips) and it turned out good! Each serving is large and filling and it has a nice rich taste without adding too much chocolate. We will definitely make these again! Pros: Good flavor easy to make thick smooth texture

Love from an avowed avocado hater... I just don't like guacamole. And thought I would never like anything avocado until I decided to make this. I was so impressed. I did not make it dairy free since I did not have non dairy chocolate chips or almond milk. I will be sure toad to smoothies I make. This gets a full five stars from me! Pros: Easy to make. Tastes like Chocolate Pudding! My kids and I enjoyed this recipe very much. I added some egg white protein powder and a handful of spinach and it left me feeling full and energized all morning. My son said it was a winning smoothie recipe.

Very tasty. I used agave nectar to sweeten it and omitted the chocolate chips. It still had plenty of chocolate flavor. Will try using stevia.
