Cobblers date back to the 1850s in America in various forms, but were originally made with fruit. Ree likes to make this version for her chocoholic husband Ladd as a special treat.

Chocolate Cobbler

(2 sticks) salted butter

flour

sugar

cocoa powder

buttermilk

vanilla

chocolate

water

Cookies and cream ice cream,

For the base: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Add the butter to a 9-by-13-inch baking dish and place in the oven while it preheats and melts.

Mix the flour, sugar and cocoa powder in a bowl. Mix in the buttermilk and vanilla until a batter forms. Spoon the batter around the baking dish over the melted butter.

For the topping: Top with the chocolate chunks, sugar and cocoa powder. Pour over the boiling water and, without stirring, bake until a nice crust forms, 40 to 45 minutes. Serve warm with cookies and cream ice cream.

Best dessert that I have made in years! I served with Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream! Was a true hit with my family! ♥️

So. Freaking. Awesome!<br />Wow, is this good.  Full disclosure, I couldn't bring myself to put entire cup of sugar on top, so I only put a half cup and half the cocoa powder.  Worked out fine.  It still had a crunchy and crispy top.  Since my oven was already full, I put the dessert in the toaster oven with a metal pan.  No problems.  I'll be making this again!  I might try it with just one stick of butter though. 😁<br />

Saw this on the show on 2/12 &amp; decided to give it a go as it’s such an interesting recipe. It turned out AH-MAZING. Lightly crisp top, almost like a brownie and an ooey-gooey, nod to molten lava cake, center that knocked this dessert out of the park. We HAD to have vanilla ice cream to temper the richness. It makes a huge portion, if anything I would half the recipe as it’s so sinfully delicious. 

His recipe was followed exactly and was an EPIC FAIL! Too runny and way too much butter!
