Chocolate Snowballs

butter, softened

sugar

salt

egg, room temperature

vanilla extract

all-purpose flour

pecans

chocolate chips

Confectioners' sugar

Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, cream butter, sugar and salt until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually beat in flour. Stir in pecans and chocolate chips.

Shape dough into 1-in. balls; place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake until set and bottoms are lightly browned, 15-20 minutes. Cool on pans 2 minutes. Roll warm cookies in confectioners' sugar. Cool completely on wire racks. If desired, reroll cookies in confectioners' sugar.

<p>This is an old, old recipe and I love it.  It is also known as Swedish  Tea cakes , Heirloom cookies and Mexican wedding cakes.   </p>

<p>Have made these a number of times throughout the year.  Only thing I do different is using hazelnuts in place of other nuts - just a personal preference. Quick, easy and everyone loves them.  </p>

I've made this recipe a few times with both walnuts and pecans. We prefer pecans! I also like to use mini chocolate chips since they are a smaller cookie.

Psalm127-3: There is no need for a leavener in these as they don't rise. You use a cookie scoop or teaspoon and form them into round balls. They bake that way. My mother also would shape them into a crescent shape. I love these. I've made them without chips and always add chopped pecans or walnuts. They are the easiest cookie to make and taste so good. Melt in your mouth.

This recipe reminds me of mexican wedding cakes or russian tea cakes...my family loves it no matter what it is called!!  For a healthy kick, I substitute half of the white flour with whole wheat!  It adds a nutty flavor to the cookies.

I ran the chocolate chips & nuts (used walnuts) through the blender to finely chop before adding them to the dough. Mine were done baking in <12 min. I used 2 c flour & had no problems. Snowball cookies are supposed to be a bit on the dry/powdery side. Excellent recipe! Thanks!bce1965, you can use either, but I prefer semi-sweet to help counter the sweetness of the cookie dough.

I have always loved Keebler's Danish Wedding Cookies.  These are a homemade version of them and like all things homemade, about a hundred times better.  Not to worry, Keeblers, I will always be true to you, too.  Merry Christmas, everybody!

Because of nut allergies, I substituted the chopped nuts for Rice Krispies cereal. The cookies were easy to make and disappeared in no time!  Had to make a second batch.

For the person who  said these were tasteless and dry - always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS SIFT YOUR FLOUR AND USE REAL BUTTER

Just made these for my son-in-law he likes simple cookies will def make them again The only thing I changes after reading reviews I use about 1 1/2 cups of flour insead of the 2 that's called for

Love this recipe!!!  I added a 1/4 tsp of peppermint extract to give the cookies a hint of mintiness!!!  They were delicious!

Discovered this recipe last year and it's fantastic. The best snowball recipe ever! Love the chocolate chips in them.

My wedding ball cookie is similar to this.  In order to tell which one is which, I added 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder to the confectioners sugar before dipping.  I also waited until they were completely cool.  Very tasty indeed.

These have become one of my families favorite Christmas cookie!

Easy and delicious!  For more color, I added red sugar to the confectioner sugar before rolling the cookies.

This is a similar recipe to what I grew up calling "Pecan Sandies" (not the Keebler kind). I've substituted walnuts before, but it's not what I grew up on.  I will have to try making them w/ chocolate chips in them. Possibly the mini ones
