Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with non-stick spray or butter.

In a large mixing bowl, beat together the shortening and brown sugar at medium speed until smooth. Add in the eggs, one by one, and beat for 3 minutes after each addition.

In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the dry ingredients into the bowl of sugar mixture and gently mix to combine. Stir in the walnuts and chocolate chips.
Step 4
Spoon the dough into the greased pan. Bake for 28 minutes. Once it’s cool enough to the touch, slice it into squares. This recipe makes 48 Congo squares. Serve and enjoy!
