This classic, comforting chicken and dumpling soup from Delish.com is almost too easy to make.

How do you feel about canned biscuit dough?

Okay so I made this recipe today and here are a few changes I had to make to it:

1.) Add the carrots and garlic in the beginning with the chicken and onions.  I added the carrots an hour earlier than the recipe says and it was still not long enough. I wish I had added them from the start.

2.) Italian seasoning rather than just oregano.

3.) After 3 hours I added the peas and dumplings. The dumplings came out fine but it took 2.5 hours to cook the dumplings to perfection and yes on HIGH setting. I added the dumplings and dunked them into the liquid once and closed the lid and did not touch for 2.5 hours checking occasionally. 

I give 3 stars because this recipe gave me a good idea on how to make crock-pot chicken and dumplings but the recipe - at least to me - was completely off in regards to cook times. So, for me, this recipe really took about 5.5 hours on HIGH because of the dumpling cook time. Hope this helps xx

follow directions and watch the video. The only thing I did different was cook the biscuits almost 2 hours to get them a little firmer but the taste is great. I also used poultry seasoning instead of oregano.

This turned out great! I would highly recommend this recipe with a few changes: I added all vegetables (except the peas) in the beginning with the chicken, I used poultry seasoning instead of oregano, I cooked the dumplings (canned biscuits) for 2.5 hours in the crockpot and only spooned liquid over them twice.  I decided against adding extra garlic as other reviewers have suggested and I'm glad I did. Mama's chicken and dumplings was not overly seasoned; it was just hearty and comforting. That's what I was going for with this recipe.

These were the first chicken and dumplings I ever made and they came out incredible. I used regular chicken broth vs. low sodium which turned out fantastic! I like spice though, and went heavy on the pepper. My boyfriend had been begging for chicken and dumplings and nearly ate half the pot in one sitting!

Made this for dinner tonight it was absolutely yummy! I took the advice from one of the reviews and added butter, delicious addition!
 I would however eliminate the garlic in the future, I'm Italian and I love garlic but 3 cloves was overpowering, and I would make my own dumplings! But the canned biscuit dough is very convenient

This recipe was amazing. I tweaked it quite a bit. I upped a few things, 3 cups chk broth and 3 cans of cream of chk soup, I added a 8 oz cream chz at the end. I also added 3/4 dry mushroom and onion soup mix packet + 3 tbls butter. I prebaked the biscuits in the oven and transferred everything to a large glass baking dish cause my crockpot was too small. Let the biscuits cook the remainder on top in the oven. My family absolutely raved over it and we had it again on xmas eve.

Delicious. ..Made lots of times..I also added potatoes chopped ..No peas. .We all love it

Very good.  Double the garlic, use 2 full pounds of chicken, add 1/2 cup of half and half, add butter, and use a pinch or two of Lawrys seasoned salt.

Excellent!!!  I put all the ingredients into the crockpot with the exception of the peas and biscuits and cooked on high for 3 hours.  Took out the chicken and shredded it and put it back in the crockpot and stirred in the peas.  Layered the cut up biscuits on top and spooned some of the gravy over them and continued to cook everything for another 1 1/2 hours.  Biscuits had a slight crust on the top and were not too gooey.  My family LOVED it and I will be making this again!

so I followed this to the T, but After I added the biscuits, I came back about 5 minutes later and they were completely melted. No biscuits at all. Any idea what could have happened?

I just made this and finished eating it with my family. They all loved it!! I added the carrots and celery at the beginning with the onions and chicken. I also used 1 can cream of chicken and 1 can cream of celery, as well as letting the can of biscuits sit out on the counter top to set to room temp, and I also flattened them a little before cutting into quarters. I continued to cook for an additional 2.5 hours as others recommended.  I don't like peas, so I didn't use them, just added an extra carrot and celery to the mix. Everything turned out SO DELISH!!! Thanks, will definitely be keeping this recipe handy! :p

Just a few minor adjustments for my personal taste, and it was great. I did leave the biscuits in for more like two hours. What a great, easy recipe!

After adding the biscuits, we waited 3 1/2 additional hours and they were still raw. We then scooped some out into a casserole dish to bake in the oven, 30 minutes later....still raw. I do not recommend this recipe. We really wanted it to be good.

This is my go-to recipe for this comfort classic. It’s definitely not a set & forget type deal, though. Takes some extra effort adding things every hour/couple hours but it is soooo worth it. I follow with B_Brillante’s modifications. A key thing is making sure the biscuits are room temp when you throw them in. I leave them on the counter when I start everything so by the time they’re ready to go in they’re good. I also compress them before cutting into quarters & arrange mostly over top (stir them in after they’ve cooked). Then cook for like 3 more hours (don’t remove the lid!) they come out perfect every time. Also, instead of 2 cans cream of chicken I do 1 cream of chicken & 1 cream of mushroom. Yum!
