Ingredients: Ice; 1 ½ ounces vodka; ½ ounce grenadine; 4 ounces light ginger beer (see Tip); 4 ounces plain seltzer or club soda; 1 maraschino cherry (see Tip)

Here's a Shirley Temple for grownups! We found that typical Dirty Shirleys are cloyingly sweet. Our version uses half the amount of grenadine as other versions and a lower-in-sugar ginger beer instead of ginger ale or lemon-lime soda for a refreshing drink.

Dirty Shirley

vodka

grenadine

light ginger beer (see Tip)

plain seltzer or club soda

maraschino cherry (see Tip)

Fill a tall glass with ice. Add vodka and grenadine, then top with ginger beer and seltzer (or club soda). Stir to combine. Garnish with cherry.
