Step 1
Preheat oven to 375F degrees.
Step 2
Peel and dice your apples. This is, by far, the most time-consuming part of the recipe. Once this step is done, you are almost finished. If you are using large apples, 5 cups will be about 4 apples.
Step 3
Sift together all the dry filling ingredients. Then, stir in the apples. Mix it well.
Step 4
Add to prepared pie crusts. If you are using frozen crusts, you don't need to do anything special, you can use them straight from the freezer.
Step 5
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, sugars, and cinnamon for the topping. Cut in butter until it has a crumbly texture.
Step 6
Crumble topping evenly onto pie. I find that firmly packing a handful and crumbling it into small pieces gives the best texture, rather than sprinkling it on.
Step 7
Place pie on a foil lined sheet, and bake for 45-55 minutes. (The juice may boil and overflow, and it's much better to catch that on disposable foil!)
Step 8
Cool, serve, and enjoy!
