Step 1
In a large skillet, cook bacon in batches until crisp. Remove to a paper towel lined plate. Drain all but 2 tbsp (30 mL)of the fat and cook onion about 5 minutes over medium heat until softened.
Step 2
Meanwhile, in a large pot of boiling water cook macaroni for about 8 minutes or until al dente. Drain and return to pot. Break up the bacon and stir into macaroni with cooked onion, 2 cups (500 mL) of the cheese and pepper.
Step 3
Spoon out into shallow bowls and sprinkle with green onions and remaining cheese. Drizzle with ketchup, salsa or chili sauce to serve, if using.
