Easy Chili

beef

onion, chopped

green bell pepper, chopped

garlic cloves,

red kidney beans, rinsed and drained

tomatoes

chili powder

salt

pepper

cumin

Cook first 4 ingredients in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring until beef crumbles and is no longer pink; drain. Place mixture in 5-quart slow cooker; stir in beans and remaining ingredients. Cook at HIGH 3 to 4 hours or at LOW 5 to 6 hours.


Notes: If you want to thicken this saucy chili, stir in finely crushed saltine crackers until the desired thickness is achieved.


Made some modifications to the recipe based on limited ingredients. Only used 1 can of kidney beans, and substituted the other with pinto. Didn't use any canned tomatoes or sauce. Instead, diced up 2 roma tomatoes. Everything else I had, and i added one more teaspoon of cumin, an extra tablespoon of chili powder, and a dash of cayenne pepper.I usually have my chili with rice, but i fried some potatoes and it was very complementary to the chili.Came out really yummy!

Made this recipe it has no flavor. I cant believe these people think it taste good enough for a 5 star review. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!

This chili was excellent! My husband and I both thought it tasted like Wendy's chili. I made it exactly as written, except I added about 2 cups of beef broth because it needed more liquid in order to cook in the Instant Pot. I then set it for 20 minutes at high pressure. Delicious!

I made chili today for the first time and used this recipe.  I started with a pan then put it in my crockpot express and it was done in 30ms.  Delicious!

This is so close to our favorite recipe I can give it a 5 on sight. We use green chilies instead of bell peppers, and Ranch Beans instead of Kidney. The one added ingredient we use is Old El Paso Taco Sauce. 

So, I came across this recipe today when I was looking up some good rated chili and decided to make some for my first time ever. It turned out absolutely amazing!!! Here are some changes and additions to mine: - 1 lb ground turkey - 1/2 lb of country pork sausage- 3 times the cumin- 2 extra tablespoons chili powder- half the salt &amp; pepper - garlic powder (including the fresh minced garlic in recipe)- 1 can red kidney beans (half the juice from can)- 1 can of chili beans (all sauce from can)- 1 cup water- 2 packets of hot chili oil I sauteed the onion and green pepper together I fried the ground turkey and the pork sausage in different pans Put it all in a dutch oven potAdded all the canned goodness Then gradually added all the spices and tasted it along the way until it was perfect to meAll the additional things and changes really made it perfect. Topped it off with shredded cheese, glop of sour cream and sprinkled green onions (BEST EVER TASTE)And baked some boxed cornbread on the side with lots of melted butter. This will definitely be something I make again and again..... Great base recipie. To some more flavor and heat I used added two teaspoons of cayenne pepper and some extra onion. Also I found it to be slightly watery (maybe the brand of tomatoes?) so the last hour I left it uncovered. Turned out great.

 I have made this recipe twice now and both times I was really pleased with how it turned out.  I followed the recipe exactly, except that I used a little over 2 ibs of beef and it still turned out great.  I made it for our super bowl party, and I got lots of compliments on it.  It was enough to serve all 10 of our guests.  I put out some shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream for people to add that on top, and that made it even more delicious.  I also made some corn bread to go with it.   

 I made a vegan version using tempeh as the meat. Usually I would use Boca or Beyond Meat Crumbles but I had some tempeh so I used it; worked well. Aside from that, just like the recipe, with a few drops of Tabasco and maybe a quarter cup of corn. 

This recipe sounded good but I decided to modify it. Used one whole tomato instead of the canned tomatoes. Added a small can of baked beans. One cup of beef broth and a few squirts of BBQ sauce and bacon chopped into bit pieces. I can't have very spicy food so it worked out perfectly. Sweet with a little bit to it.

Chili came out amazing, I just did a few adjustments, I used diced tomatoes with green chilies, added pinto beans, some diced celery, a can of corn and added 1/2 cup of beer, and put more seasoning in it, topped with sour cream and cheese! it was so good! husband and kids loved it!

 Best one yet. This recipe turned out fantastic. Made as directed, 
but... with a twist!! The following are the only little changes I made. Pot 
on stove. Used ground beef and pork. Added a red bell pepper. Used 
tomato puree instead. More salt. Less pepper. 1 tsp each sugar and 
vinegar. 2 cans chick peas. Used shallots instead of onion. Thanks for the great recipe. Will make again. 

I love great recipes that are very simple to follow and have all the common spices that you would normally have in your cabinet. This recipe is just that and turned out great!! To add just a little more flavor I put half of green, yellow, red and orange bell peppers and a lil ketchup!! Lol ketcup gives it a lil kick!

I made this chili without kidney beans, I'm not too fond of them. I also substituted the ground beef for ground. turkey I used black beans and red beans drained. Then I added a tall can of baked beans. I added half a can of corn. I agree with Saradubito, no slow cooker needed!!! This is easy and takes no time at all to prep and serve!!! Thanks for the share!

I wanted to make a good basic chili, but don't have access to a slow cooker. I pretty much made as directed (added in a jalapeno at the advice of other reviewers for more spice!). After adding in all the spices, I let simmer covered on low for about 2.5 hours, adding about a half a cup of water when it looked low. Has great rich flavor! Will definitely make again.

This chilli is excellent,quick,and easy. I added some fresh tomatoes,green peppers,and onions.  I also added black beans,kidney beans, and pinto beans. I added some cumin as a previous review wrote and some onion powder. The family loved it they even went back for seconds and the men had thirds.

I have made this chili recipe countless times, especially for large casual dinners and as a meal to take to families with a recent birth or death. I have always received compliments with this recipe. It is a classic feel-good chili recipe that satisfies a wide range of palates. If you think someone may want a spicier chili, just have some tabasco sauce on hand.

Perfect! I modified by adding a 1/4 red wine, more chili powder, more cumin, cayenne pepper and dried red pepper flakes. (We like our chili spicy!)  Instead of the green peppers, I put in a 16 oz can of black beans. It seemed like a lot to put a whole onion in there, so I put in only half of a chopped onion - add it's still plenty. Simmered on low for 1.5-2 hrs and there was no leftovers! :) I going to make a double batch next time and freeze individual servings.

Tasty and easy as promised. Didn't feel like dragging out the crockpot, so I threw it all in a pot on the stove to simmer on low. Added an extra 14 oz can of diced tomatoes, red bellpepper and chopped celery. Used 3 Tablespoons of Chili Powder which gave it a nice little bite. Next time I plan to add some canned Rotel or fresh chopped Jalapenos to experiment with "the kick." Great basic recipe. Try it!

Very good recipe.  I tried it the first time following this recipe exactly, and it turned out delicious.  However, it is a little mild in my opinion (and in my fathers).  I have another pot of this cooking right now and I have altered the recipe slightly:

Instead of 1 green bell pepper, I went ahead and made it 1/2 green and 1/2 red, since the red has a little more zip.

I also added 2 jalapenos and a half a cup of beer.

Problem with the beer is that the chili is too liquidy, so I am leaving it uncovered for a while so it can steam off some of the moisture.  But so far it looks delicious.  I would recommend this recipe.

This was absolutely delicious!  I modified it a bit.  I didn't not drain the meat, added more chili powder, and added a small can of GOYA tomato sauce and a teaspoon of sugar!  I cannot wait to make this again!

This is really easy and yummy. I have changed it a few times with ground turkey and adding more onions.  Once I added corn. It always comes out great!!! I make it with corn bread and salad for a great winter meal. Great!

This is a great recipe.  I did make a few additions.  I added a bit more salt and some onion powder.  I also added about a cup of water to the crock pot during cooking.  It got a bit dry without any liquid.  Excellent meal will definately make this again.
