Step 2

Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4 and butter and line a deep round18cm/7in cake tin with baking paper.

Step 5

Place the flour, mixed spice, sugar and butter in a bowl with the milk, mincemeat, eggs and orange zest.

Using a hand mixer, whisk on a low speed for a couple of minutes until thoroughly combined. Alternatively, mix with a wooden spoon. Pour or spoon the cake batter into the prepared cake tin and bake for 50 to 60 minutes until well risen, and a dark golden brown.

Step 11

Remove to a wire rack. Leave to cool for about 30 minutes before carefully removing the from the tin and removing the baking paper.

Step 14

Allow to cool completely before serving in slices.
