Step 1

Bend about 1 inch of one end of the green pipe cleaner to a 90 degree angle to make the tree trunk.

Step 2

Then bend the green pipe cleaner back and forth in a wavy zig-zag gradually tapering to small zig zags as you get near the end of your pipe cleaner (which will be the top point of your tree).

Step 3

Using the gold pipe cleaner, bend a small zig zag pattern at one end. You'll need exactly 5 zigs and 5 zags that are about 1/2 inch long each. Cut the pipe cleaner, leaving about 1 inch after the last zig zag.

Step 4

To shape your star, pinch each point of the zig zags and slightly bend them around into a circle to form a star shape with 5 points. Bend the remaining 1 inch of pipe cleaner straight out from the back of star.

Step 5

Wrap the short length of gold pipe cleaner sticking out from behind the star around the green pipe cleaner end at the top of the tree.

Step 6

Cut a length of gold cord, ribbon, or twine and tie it around the top of your tree shape.

Step 7

Hang your pipe cleaner tree ornament on the Christmas tree!
