Step 1
Set the mascarpone out and allow it to soften a bit before you begin.
Step 2
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until they are well blended. Next, whisk in the milk and cook over medium heat, constantly stirring, until the mixture boils.

Boil gently for 1 minute, then remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly. Cover the pan with plastic film refrigerate for about an hour.

In a medium bowl, beat the whipping cream with vanilla until stiff peaks form. Set it aside.

Whisk the mascarpone into the egg yolk mixture until smooth.

In a small bowl, combine the coffee and liqueur of your choice.

Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, then half of the whipped cream.
Step 9
Repeat the layers and dust the top with cocoa. Cover and refrigerate for 4 to 6 hours, or until set.
