Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas mark 6

Step 2

Cream the butter and sugar in a bowl or food processor

Step 3

Add one egg and mix carefully with a spoon of flour to prevent curdling

Step 4

Add the other egg and mix well

Step 5

Fold in the flour

Step 6

Measure the syrup into a buttered pudding dish - spoon the cake mixture on top of the syrup

Step 7

Cover with buttered foil with a fold to allow for expansion

Step 8

Bake for 35-40 minutes - until a skewer comes out clean

Step 9

Serve warm with custard, cream or ice cream
