Step 1
Cut the two 5 1/2” x 5 1/2” and 7 1/4” x 7 1/4” squares in half along the diagonal.
Step 2
You should end up with 4 triangles of each fabric.
Step 3
Center the long edge of two of the cut 5 1/2” squares (that are now triangles) with the 6 1/2” x 6 1/2” piece, right sides facing. On opposite sides of the square. The triangle tips will overhang the edges of the square.
Step 4
Remember to double-check that the triangle is centered on the side of the center square.
Step 5
Sew in place with a 1/4” seam allowance.
Step 6
Flip the fabric up and press the seams towards the outside triangles.
Step 7
Repeat with the remaining two triangles.
Step 8
Find the center of this unit and square it to 9” x 9”.
Step 9
Repeat the steps above using the triangles cut from the 7 1/4” squares.
Step 10
Again, remember to line up the center of the triangle with the center of the center squares.
Step 11
Square and trim final block to 12 1/2” x 12 1/2”
