French Dip Sandwiches

1 (3 1/2- to 4-pound) boneless chuck roast, trimmed

soy sauce

beef bouillon cube

bay leaf

peppercorns

dried rosemary, crushed

thyme

garlic powder

French sandwich rolls, split

Place trimmed roast in a 5-quart slow cooker. Combine soy sauce and next 6 ingredients; pour over roast. Add water to slow cooker until roast is almost covered.


Cook, covered, on low 7 hours or until very tender. Remove roast, reserving broth; shred roast with a fork. Place roast in rolls, and serve with reserved broth for dipping.


I will never look for another French Dip recipe again....this is a keeper! My 11 and 12 year old kids loved it too. I toasted sub rolls and served with Provolone cheese. I cooked a 4 lb chuck roast and there was plenty leftover. The next day I put a little mayo on Pepperidge Farm Oatmeal bread, topped with Provolone and some leftover beef, then grilled on the stovetop. I did not have leftover au jus sauce, but it was still delicious. Honestly, the best sandwich I've ever had.

Fabulous!  I didn't have rosemary, but it was still wonderful without it.  We added grilled onions and peppers. Everyone licked their plates clean!

Loved it.  My husband even said that it's the best French Dip, he has ever had.  I highly recommend it.

This one i easy to make and always a hit.  It might also be good with some onion powder to make the au jus more flavorful.

Added an extra 1/4 cup of soy sauce. Tried adding sherry, but preferred it without. Toasted bread topped with provolone cheese in the oven and served the meat on that. So good!

Fabulous!  We make this every time our college daughter comes home.  It is her favorite.  Easy, very good spices, not spicy or hot and reheats well for later in the week.  Easy to take to work.

Oh my goodness...this was so delicious.  Best french dip we've ever had.  Toasted the buns with some melty mozzarella, and then topped off with the beef.  Cut sandwiches in half for easier dipping.  So yummy!  Will definitely make again!

So easy and delicious.  I use low sodium soy sauce to reduce some of the saltiness.  I suppose you could do the same with the beef bouillon cube.  Added some provolone to the sandwich and broiled it, open faced, just until the cheese melted.

so good my husband demanded i rated it.to solve the salty factor i used herbox beef bullion its sodium,gluten,and msg free.i used a 4.5 lb roast and an extra 1/4 cup soy. we used the leftovers for bbq beef the next day and the broth for french onion soup. we still had beef leftover so i made a version of ropa veja with it and beef quisadillas. this will be on our menu all the time :)

Great dish.  Used fresh herbs &amp; a 1/8C sherry.  Can't wait to have again.

I was searching for something other than the old chuck roast in the crock pot recipe and this was IT! First, I did pan-sear the roast before putting it in the crock pot.  A little larger than recipe called for ( 4 1/2 lbs), so I added an extra 1/4 cup soy sauce. Used 2 sprigs of fresh thyme instead of the dry and did not add the rosemary, which I'm not a big fan of.  Otherwise used all ingredients as called for.  Was a big hit with my boys-even the big guy-and have just enough left over for a nice lunch. This has definitely been added to my recipe file.

So easy and delightful!  The taste was exactly like a restaurant version.  My house smelled wonderful and my family loved it!
