Step 1

Add sugar cube, two dashes of orange bitters, and a few drops of water to the bottom of an Old-Fashioned glass, then muddle until sugar is dissolved.

Step 2

Add 2 oz of Bols barrel-aged genever.

Step 3

Add one large ice cube. The best ones barely fit inside the glass.

Step 4

Stir until chilled.

Step 5

Finally, cut a slice of peel from a fresh, firm orange using a vegetable peeler or paring knife. Aiming the cut side over the surface of the drink, twist it to squeeze out a mist of essential oils, then drop it in the glass.
