Step 1

Heat the oven to 220°C/200°C fan/gas Mix together all the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl, then make a well in the centre. Add the remaining ingredients to the well, then work the mixture with your hands to make a loose, smooth and wet dough.

Step 2

Put the dough in the prepared tin. Bake for 15 minutes, then turn down the oven to 190°C/170°C fan/gas 5 and bake for a further 35-40 minutes. Remove the bread from the tin, then bake directly on the oven rack for 5 minutes more or until the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack. Serve sliced with salted butter.
