Hawaiian Cheese Bread

(1 pound) Hawaiian sweet bread

block (8 ounces) Swiss cheese

red onion, chopped

butter, melted

garlic cloves,

salt

I make a party/spice bread very similar.  Tip:  Use an electric knife to cut the bread - so much easier and be sure to double wrap in foil and put a cookie sheet underneath.  With single foil and nothing underneath, the butter will leak out making a mess of your oven and the bread will taste smokey.

I just made and it turned out incredibly. I used a sweet onion instead of the red. We have a new family favorite. I served it with BBQ chicken, corn on the cob, cole slaw, and peach cobbler.

Made this last night for the Super Bowl.  It was pretty good.  If I made it again, I would puree the onions, or mince them.   I didn't care for the diced pieces of onion on it.

Created an account just to review this recipe.  Delicious! Easy, quick, and customizable. We added diced bell peppers, black ground pepper and red pepper flakes.  I imagine it would be good with bacon (though I'm a vegetarian so i won't try that one), hot peppers/jalapenos, spinach or kale.. endless possibilities!

This was great, but I used green onions in place of red, & a dash of garlic salt in place of the minced garlic & salt.

I make this every time I have company and always get rave reviews. Mine does not look as pretty as the bread in the picture, but it tastes fabulous. I lift the foil toward the end of baking to make sure it crisps up. This is a go-to recipe to impress company, family and friends.

We buy King's Hawaiian bread here.  It is usually found in the deli section of your grocery stores.  It comes in the round loaf, in dinner rolls and in sandwich buns.  There's no cheese in it.  It's just a sweet bread.

This bread received raves at the moms' night out I brought it to. Everyone loved it. It definitely has earned a place at my family's all-appetizer Christmas Eve dinner this year.

I made this for a work potluck, and it was a huge hit!  Because I needed it at noon, and I leave for work at 7am, I assembled it the night before and put it in a crock pot.  I turned it on about an hour beforehand - I'd recommend turning it on earlier than I did, as the cheese wasn't as melty as I'd have liked. I also used garlic salt

I made this for my Brother's birthday meal..everybody ooh'd & aaah'd over it. It is wonderful!

It's all-riiiiight.  Not too impressed though.  Too many onions.

I don't know what Hawaiian Sweet bread is either. We don't have it here in Australia. Is there something else we could use?

I thought I lost this recipe...whew, then I remembered I could look it up.  It is a winner.  It is easy and is simply an amazing appetizer!  Try it!

Check your grocery store deli for this bread sold under King's Hawaiian bread.  It comes in dinner rolls, round loaf and sandwich buns.  It's a sweet bread and it does not have cheese in the bread. 

There's not a crumb left when I serve this bread.  It's a great party food or accompaniment to  soups and salads.
