Assemble this in the morning, and when you return for dinner you'll be rewarded with sweet, sticky drumsticks with an irresistible hoisin and honey sauce that thickens and concentrates as the drumsticks cook.

Hoisin and Honey Slow-Cooker Chicken Drumsticks

hoisin sauce

honey

ketchup

soy sauce

garlic, minced (about 1 tablespoon)

chile flakes, optional

chicken drumsticks (about 2 pounds), skin on

Chinese five-spice powder

salt and black pepper

scallions, thinly sliced

white rice,

Whisk together the hoisin, honey, ketchup, soy sauce, garlic and chile flakes if using in a medium bowl. Sprinkle the drumsticks all over with the five-spice powder, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper.

Place the chicken in a 6-quart slow cooker and cover with the hoisin mixture, then toss the drumsticks to coat. Cook on low until the chicken is very tender when pierced with a knife and the sauce is thickened slightly, about 4 hours. Remove the drumsticks and sauce to a bowl, top with the scallions and serve with rice.

I made this in the oven, adding the sauce half way thru the baking. It was a little sweet but very good. I would recommend this recipe. Kids and adults will enjoy it. 

I made this for dinner tonight and it was a hit!  Very quick and easy to get in to the crockpot.

I loved this.  Even my boyfriend who eats like a 5 year old loved it.  Based on reviews I added Chinese 5 spice to mixture.  Next time I will probably leave out chili flakes, I think the hoisin sauce has a little kick and I'm a baby when it comes to spicy food.  I did cook on high for 2 hours and low for 5. It was perfect.  I did add some corn starch to mixture to thicken and it worked.  I will be using this recipe for a long time. 

This was only ok. There are many bottled sauces that are as good or better with less work.

Just made this for dinner tonight was really good.  I decided to put the Chinese 5 spice in the sauce mixture instead of on the chicken itself and to me that gave it an extra flavor element.  Definitely going to make this again.

Very tasty sauce. I cooked on low for 8 hours (had to work), but came home and took it out right away. Delicious.

This just didn’t turn out. The flavor was sorely lacking. 

I thought the flavor was great, and I'm not a huge fan of Chinese 5-Spice.  That can be used according to how much you like that flavor.  The only change I would make is that I think it would be better to bake the chicken first and drain off the fat before putting it in the slow cooker (or maybe half-bake it.)  The next day the sauce was completely coagulated from all the fat from the raw chicken cooking in the sauce in the slow cooker.  Otherwise, very good!
