One amazing tip... sprinkle a generous amount of sugar over top once in the serving bowls and it stops the layer forming on the top. Very similar to the one I do but I don’t add butter or vanilla at the end I just leave it to set and it tastes great

Following some of the other reviews, I reduced the sugar to 1/2 cup and it was fabulous! My 3 year old grandson wanted it a little sweeter, so next time I\'ll go with 2/3 cup of sugar, though the 1/2 cup was perfect for MY taste. Only problem is that I always have the ingredients on hand and can make pudding anytime! This recipe is perfect as written!

Easy to make. Had all ingredients on hand. I did take the advice of a fellow baker & used 2/3 cup sugar & I'm glad I did. After putting all the dry ingredients in the sauce pan, I wisked it all together & continued stirring as I was adding the milk slowly. No lumps, it set up beautifully. It was plenty sweet, plenty of chocolate flavor. Will definitely be making again.

The flavor was good, but my pudding never set. It was liquid like chocolate milk, even after I refrigerated it overnight.

Really easy  and quick.  Be sure to stir the entire time.   I put a spec of cardamom in mine, just to make it mine.  Very delish and fresh

I wish I would have read the reviews before I made this. Since the average rating was high, I assumed it would be good. It was horrible. It never set and didn't taste very good at all. I just wasted 4 cups of good milk. Next time I'll read the reviews before I choose a recipe to try.

Perfect comfort food recipe for a cold night!  I followed the suggestions in the other reviews and mixed my dry ingredients first, adding the milk slowly as I whisked it all together.  I should have only added 2/4 cup of milk, but instead, after deciding that it was too sweet for us, added a cup of half and half as I had used all of the milk for this.  I also added two tablespoons of cinnamon and it is PERFECT!!!

Have never written a review, but wanted to for this pudding recipe. Easy, Good, and family loved it!!!!

I cut this recipe in half...makes for a great warm snack. Top with milk chocolate morsels!

How can something so easy be so good? It turned out perfect, just the right thickness and sweetness! The only change I made was in using Lactaid milk. I just can't say enough great things about this pudding. Many thanks Carrina for sharing this recipe.

Good, but too sweet, I’d cut the sugar in half to make it more refreshing and to be able to taste the chocolate more

My husband and I love this pudding. I added sweet flaked coconut (about a cup) but left off the M & M's. There is probably no limit to the variations you could use. Can't wait to serve it to our grandchildren, since they are big chocolate lovers.

I too wish I had read all the reviews. I followed the directions exactly and not only did it not set, but it burned and completely scorched my pan. How on Earth could a pudding recipe end up burning without even setting? What a waste of really good ingredients not to mention the destruction of my good saucepan.

For those getting soup, here is the science of corn starch from the net.  Cornstarch must be cooked to 95°C (203°F) before thickening begins. At that point, it usually thickens fairly quickly and the sauce turns from opaque to transparent. When cornstarch thins after it\'s thickened, it\'s usually due to continued stirring. Once the thickening network forms, any agitation interferes with the setting process. The sauce thins when the starch network that sets and traps the liquid is broken. Liquid is released and thins the sauce.

I thought this recipe was bangin. The person who complained and said she scorched her pan. Its because of the cornstarch. You have to stir constantly. I used special dark cocoa powder and used 6 instead of 8 cups of milk.

This is fantastic! I absolutely loved making this with my oldest (he's 11). We ended up making 2 batches of this pudding just this morning. We nearly stirred in continuously so nothing burned on the bottom of the pan. One of our batches was made with a sugar substitute and still turned out amazingly well. If yours seams soupy, don't worry. It will thicken up after it's been in the fridge for a bit. We topped with homemade cool whip.

This is the same recipe my mother always made. She called it Corn Starch Pudding. Better than ANY of the store bought puddings

My family thought that chocolate was a little too strong. Next time I think I'll cut that back a little bit, but it was good.

Oh my this is way better than anything I bought in a cup, and I used to dislike pudding. Best of all its easy too!

This recipe is delicious as is, but I had to make it recently with a milk substitute that worked really well, and thought I’d pass it on.  I was making this for a pie, but didn’t have whole milk on hand, so I reduced the amount of milk to 3 cups (my pie shell was shallow, so this amount worked well) and it consisted of 2 cups of 2% milk, plus 1 cup of half & half coffee cream that I had in the fridge.  I also added an extra tablespoon of corn starch, but I really don’t think that was necessary since I reduced the amount of milk. The pie was awesome!  One of the firmest pudding pies I’ve ever made, and it held its shape on days 2 and 3 as well!

Easy and delicious. I followed the recipe exactly. My husband does not usually like pudding as much as I do, but he loved this.

Sorry to be so critical with the star rating, but this simply just didn't "cut the mustard" for our family. On an up note, it was simple to prepare....

I made this the first time and messed up by not stirring it enough, just made it again and it came out perfect!! My family and I loved it:) 5 stars!
