Step 1
Place apple on a cutting board with the stem facing up.
Step 2
Using a sharp knife, make a cut ½-inch to the right or left of the stem and cut all of the way down. Pay close attention to avoid the core.
Step 3
Turn the apple 90 degrees and make a similar cut all of the way through the apple.
Step 4
Repeat this process until you have four pieces of apple and a separate piece of core.
Step 5
Place the apple pieces cut side down on the cutting board and slice into ¼-½ inch pieces.
Step 6
Serve apple slices immediately or toss in 1 teaspoon of lemon juice if storing for later.
