Ripe Bartlett pears should be yellow and tender.

Asian pears should be brown or yellow, with no green undertones. They should be firm without soft spots and have a sweet aroma.

Step 3

For other kinds of pears, press on the flesh near the stem. It should have a little bit of give. It shouldn’t be too soft or covered with dark spots.
