Step 1

Preheat oven to 400°F, placing the oven rack in the upper middle position. Turn on the convection/forced air if available.

Step 2

Grease the inside of a 13x9-inch baking dish with a small amount of oil and set aside.

Step 3

Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. When the pan is hot, add the canola oil, onions and ground beef. Saute for 5 to 7 minutes or until browned, using a wooden spoon to break up any clumps.

Step 4

Add the garlic, salt and pepper. Saute for another 30 seconds or until fragrant.

Step 5

Remove from heat. Mix in the tomato paste, mayonnaise, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and 1 cup of grated cheese.

Step 6

Pour the mixture into the prepared dish. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheese evenly across the top.

Step 7

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly on top.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and garnish with optional green onions on top. Let cool slightly before serving.
