Ingredients: One 12-ounce bag fresh cranberries, cleaned; 1 3/4 cups sugar; 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and chopped; Grated zest and juice of 1 orange; Grated zest and juice of 1 lemon

Make-Ahead Cranberry Sauce

Cook the cranberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water in a saucepan over low heat for about 5 minutes, or until the skins pop open. Add the apple, zests, and juices and cook for 15 more minutes. Remove from the heat, let cool, and serve chilled.

I have been making my own cranberry sauce for a few years, but when I saw Ina made hers with apple, I just had to try it. I have missed the water as it is not listed in the ingredients and because this is more or less the same that I had, I overlooked it by mistake. However it did not matter. I cut down the sugar to one cup and used 1/2 cup white and 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup orange juice as I did not want it to be too sweat, put them in a saucepan on a low flame until sugar was totally dissolved, then I added 1/4t.ground cinnamon, some orange zest, some lemon zest, squeeze of lemon, chopped one granny smith apple, and cranberries. I followed Ina's directions for 15 minutes on low flame, and at the very end I added a couple of drops of pomegrate molasses that Bobby Flay used in the same show.<div>FANTASTIC.  I have frozen some for use at a later date.</div><div><br /></div><div>p.s. maybe next time I will use that extra cup of water, but it turned out great.</div>

I always loved cranberry sauce during thanksgiving and always thought there could be a whole lot more than just the jellied can stuff. I made this a few years ago and now it's a tradition. So full of flavor and fresh.

Fantastic recipe but by adding cherry jello and a extra cup boiling water makes it amazing. Use the bigger jello pack and let sit in refrigerator for 1 day

Amazing with some modifications!<div>1. I only add the orange zest and juice, NOT any lemon. </div><div>2. I cut the sugar down by 1/4 cup.</div><div>3. I cook a little longer than directed on the stove.</div><div>4. I add one teaspoon of roasted cinnamon (this idea comes from Alex G’a recipe)</div><div><br /></div><div>With the modifications this is PERFECT’</div>

I prefer tart versus sweet, so I made this recipe for Thanksgiving using 1 cup versus the recommended 1 3/4 cup sugar.  It was perfect for my taste.  The zesty of both the lemon and orange added a nice bright flavor. Very easy to make.

This is the best cranberry sauce that I have ever had. When I take it anywhere all want the recipe. I even have my family in Ohio now making it.

I've been making this for many years, I never saw this recipe before, I created it out if my own head. I guess great minds think a like. Lol I also make one that I add walnuts to. Both are delish!
