I love breakfast sausage, but most store-bought brands are high in calories and fat and not very diet-friendly. Try this slightly sweet version made with real maple syrup. The apples help keep the sausage moist. I like to cook up a batch on Sundays and store in the fridge for quick breakfasts all week. Take care not to overcook the patties.

Maple Apple Turkey Sausage

maple syrup,

salt

sage

garlic powder

black pepper

marjoram

cinnamon

cloves

olive oil

Combine turkey, apple, maple syrup, salt, sage, garlic powder, black pepper, marjoram, cinnamon, and cloves in a bowl; mix well. Form into 10 small patties.


Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry patties until no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, 3 to 4 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).


9.4.17 Oh yeah we liked this sausage! I ve tried a number of turkey sausage recipes from this site and this recipe is so distinctly different. Browned up nicely super moist and simply bursting with flavor. First you get a pop of sweetness from the apple and next the maple syrup flavor kicks in. I thought even the texture of the turkey sausage was better and closer to what you find with traditional pork sausage. Next time I might even give it a little sprinkle of red pepper flakes which might be an interesting contrast to the sweetness. Lil Snoo thanks for sharing this one s a keeper.

What a unique flavor! Making sausage is so easy! I ground my own turkey using some dark meat in there. I cooked up a patty just to try it and indeed take care not to overcook it. I used the rest in another recipe and it was really good. The apple gives it a soft sweetness that goes very well with the rest of the ingredients. I added some Thai chilis to give it some kick. Thank you for the recipe.

This was a nope for me. Ground turkey is processed with so much water these fell apart in the skillet. It tasted like boiled meat with spice fruit..

This came out really well, I was impressed at the flavors, but it did leave me wanting a little kick at the end. I'm on a low sodium diet, so left out the salt, but doubled down on all the spices (not the syrup) as another reviewer suggested. I also grated my apple instead of dicing it. 

I put it on a pizza, and I ended up sprinkling just a little red pepper flakes on the slice, to a superb effect.  Next time I make this, I will add the red pepper flakes directly in, or possibly just a 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne. 

With homemade artisan herb dough, homemade sauce, onions, peppers and fresh grated mozz my non pepperoni side was 255 calories and 105 sodium per slice!

These  are delicious and so moist. I used ground Thyme instead of Sage. I made these alongside whole grain pancakes for breakfast.  Will definitely make again.

It took me to try this a 2nd time to get this perfect.  The 1st time I followed the ingredients exactly and it was a bit bland and didn’t taste like sausage.  With the left over meat I decided to add more sage and cook the small diced Granny Smith apples with a little maple and 1/4 of vegetable oil.  I let it cool then mixed it all together with the rest of the listed ingredients.  It turned out perfect!

Very good it really made my morning  you do not taste the Apple every  spice complement  the other.I love this recipe.

This is exactly what I was looking for! Loved it! I sauteed onion and the apple before adding it to the mix, also added an egg (wouldn't add the egg again). After the first batch, I added red pepper flakes and some fennel seed.

Just made this but without grd cloves (didn't have) and added 1/2 tsp cayenne for added kick. I also baked these in the oven and they turned out well except they did not brown due to the moisture. I did drain out the juices at half way mark and flipped them too. They taste good but I will leave the cinnamon out next time as it just doesn't seem to belong. I like cinnamon but not with meat. To reheat these I would put in frying pan with a little mist of  olive oil.
