Step 1

At least 8 hours before serving the drink, place the star anise pods in one well of an ice tray that makes extra-large (about 1 3/4-inch/4.5-cm) cubes. Cover with warm water and freeze until solid.

Step 2

In a chilled double old-fashioned glass, stir together the bourbon, maple syrup, lemon juice and bitters. Add the star anise ice cube and stir until the cocktail is well chilled. Top with the prosecco and stir gently to combine. Makes 1 drink.
