Use an authentic tasting distilled old tom gin that's balanced rather than overly sweet, and you'll have a fabulous cocktail.I've used dry vermouth to balance the sweet vermouth. However, if you're looking for simplicity and fewer ingredients then you may prefer to omit the dry vermouth, balancing  by instead reducing the sweet vermouth and maraschino while also doubling the bitters as follows:2 shot Old Tom Gin2/3 shot Sweet vermouth1/8 shot Maraschino2 dashes of Aromatic bitters

Martinez (with Old Tom gin)

60 ml Gin - Old Tom gin

22.5 ml Vermouth - Rosso/rouge (sweet) vermouth

7.5 ml Maraschino liqueur

Angostura or other aromatic bitters

STIR ingredients with ice and fine strain into chilled glass
