Mix sugar and shortening until creamy.
Step 2
Add the egg yolks to creamy mixture.
Step 3
Mix in the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and salt.
Step 4
Add the sour cream and beat well.
Step 5
Add the vanilla and fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
Step 6
Bake in a greased 8-inch layer pan for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
