Step 1

In a pie plate, slice the bananas, drizzle with lemon juice, and set aside.

Step 2

Whip the cream with 3 teaspoons sugar until soft peaks, place in the refrigerator.

Make the Pudding recipe:

In a nonstick 1-quart saucepan, combine 3/4 cup sugar, 1 cup milk. Scald mixture.

Step 5

In a small mixing bowl, whisk the remaining 2 cups of milk and cornstarch together to make a slurry.

Step 6

Whisk egg yolks with salt in a medium bowl.

Step 7

Temper yolks by adding 1/2 cup scalded milk mixture to yolks and whisk well.

Step 8

Add yolk mixture and put back into milk mixture and whisk vigorously over medium heat until thickened, about 2 minutes.

Step 9

Remove from heat, add vanilla, and butter. Whisk until uniformly incorporated.

Step 10

In a  large casserole dish or see-through trifle bowl, layer the wafers, pudding, sliced bananas then whipped cream.

Step 11

Repeat layers until you use everything up, ending with the whipped cream.

Step 12

Refrigerate until ready to serve.
