Step 1

Place the butter in the 9x13" pan and place it in the oven. Preheat your oven to 350℉. The butter will melt as you complete the other steps.

Step 2

Mix together your spices with a fork in a small bowl.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, combine peaches, white sugar, water, and about half of the spice mixture.

Step 4

Heat to boiling stirring continuously, then turn the heat down and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 5

While the peaches are simmering, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and light brown sugar in a mixing bowl. Make sure to get rid of any lumps from the brown sugar.

Step 6

Slowly stir in the milk until the batter is smooth and there are no pockets of flour.

Step 7

When the peaches are done simmering, turn off the heat and set them on a cold burner.

Step 8

Get your pan out of the oven (the butter should be melted) and set it on a trivet.

Step 9

Carefully pour the batter over the melted butter. DO NOT mix them together. You may use a rubber spatula to gently push batter over any holes or towards any empty corners.

Step 10

Spoon the peaches and their syrup over the batter.

Step 11

Bake at 350℉ for 30 minutes, or until a fork inserted into the cake part (not a peach!) comes out clean.

Step 12

Cool for 5 minutes before serving with a generous helping of vanilla ice cream.
