Measure 2 cups sifted Swans Down Cake Flour.

Step 2

Add 2 t baking powder and ¼ t salt and sift together 3 times.

Step 3

Cream 4 T butter or other shortening; add 1 cup sugar gradually, creaming thoroughly.

Step 4

Add 1 unbeaten egg and beat well.

Step 5

Add flour. Alternately ¾ cup milk in small amounts, beating well after each addition.

Step 6

Add 1 t vanilla.

Step 7

Bake in 2 greased 8 inch layer pans in moderate oven (25 minutes.
