Step 1
For the vanilla bean simple syrup: Combine the sugar, vanilla bean paste and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and let cool completely. Keep covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
Step 2
For the cocktail: Combine the orange juice, rum, orange liqueur and 1 ounce vanilla bean simple syrup in a pitcher; stir to combine, then chill in the fridge until ready to serve. (Save the remaining vanilla bean simple syrup for another use.)
Step 3
To serve, fill 4 glasses with orange juice ice cubes and pour the orange juice mixture evenly into each glass, leaving a bit of room at the top. Top each drink with 1 ounce coconut milk. Place half of an orange wedge on the side of each glass. Serve without stirring the coconut milk into the drink, but suggest stirring before sipping to your guests.
