Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce

butter

olive oil

garlic,

onion,

tomato sauce

sugar

Salt and black pepper

fettuccine

heavy cream

Grated Parmesan or Romano, as needed

basil,

Heat the butter and oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and onions and saute for a minute or so. Pour in the tomato sauce, add sugar, salt and pepper to taste and stir. Cook over low heat for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cook the pasta according to the package directions. Drain, reserving 1 cup of pasta water.

Remove the sauce from the heat and stir in the cream. Add cheese to taste, then check the seasoning. Stir in the pasta and thin with a little pasta water if needed. Add the chopped basil and serve immediately. 

This is delicious and so easy and quick.  I threw in some Parmesan cheese rinds and cooked them with it and removed them before serving.  I also spiced it up a bit with crushed red pepper.  My family loves it.  It’s even better the next day.

Saw this recipe on your show and was in the mood to cook so I gave it a try! I love how few ingredients are needed and it was quick and easy to make. My whole family loves this creamy tomato pasta!! Will be adding it to my recipe book! I served it with salad and bread. 

Delicious! Added lots of parmesan at the end and it gave a beautiful richness to the flavor! 


Several folks had given us tomatoes from their bountiful gardens, and we had a leftover pasta dish that needed sauce, so I decided to try the sauce from this recipe.  I peeled, seeded, and hand-crushed the various tomatoes and used them just like the canned sauce in the recipe.  Otherwise, I followed the sauce recipe closely with extra cooking to cook the tomatoes down.  Oh, I also added just pinch of pepper flakes to add another layer of goodness and balance the sweetness.  The sauce was delicious and we will definitely make it again!  

This was wonderful! I pretty much followed the recipe but rather than marinara sauce I used a 28oz can of whole peeled tomatoes and crushed them in my hand on their way to the skillet. I did add the sugar and also added about 1/2 teaspoon of Italian Herb Blend. I chose to only use the cheese as a garnish with the fresh basil at the end. This is definitely a “keeper”!

Easy breeze and very delicious! Usually have left but this time everyone finished it with multiple servings! Will make it again in the future! 

Wow, this was wonderful. My only adjustment was that I added a couple extra cloves of garlic, but we’re big garlic fans in this household. 

Made it tonight and it came out GREAT! now my hubby and son wanted meatballs so I made a few and threw them on top of their plate. Super easy and so yummy.
