Puffs and Slip Stitches – Crochet Stitch Tutorial

Step 1

Ch an uneven number of stitches. Row 1: Hdc 1 in 4th ch from hook, hdc 1 in each st across.

Ch 1.

Step 3

Puff step 1: Yarn over and pull up a loop from next stitch. You have 3 loops on the crochet hook.

Step 4

Puff step 2: Yarn over and pull up a loop from same stitch. You have 5 loops on the crochet hook.

Step 5

Puff step 3: Yarn over and pull up a loop from same stitch. You have 7 loops on the crochet hook.

Step 6

Puff step 4: Yarn over and pull through all loops on hook.

Step 7

Slip stitch in next stitch.

Repeat across: 1 puff, 1 slip stitch. This is how the puff & slip stitch row looks finished. Shown from the wrong side.

Step 9

Puff & slip stitch row finished. Shown from the right side.

Step 10

Hdc 1 directly in 1st st (counts as 1st st), hdc 1 in each st from prev row, turn. Photo shows how it looks after crocheting half double crochet stitches across. Repeat row 2 and 3 until the crochet project is the desired size.
