Step 1

Prepare your pie crust by rolling it out to 1/4-inch thickness and forming it in a pie plate or tart pan, chill in the fridge until ready to fill

Preheat your oven to 375º F.Melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat

When the butter begins to foam, add the onions and brown sugar

Step 4

Let them cook, stirring occasionally, until they are very tender, about 8-10 minutes

This is a good time to cook your bacon (in a separate skillet) if you are using bacon instead of ham

Add the garlic to the pan with the onions and cook 1 minute longer, until fragrant

Remove the skillet from the heat.In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, cream, salt, pepper and nutmeg together until they’re well combined

Stir in the cheese, bacon or ham, and the onion mixture

Step 9

Pour the egg mixture into the prepared pie crust

Step 10

Bake for 35-45 minutes until the egg mixture is set and no longer jiggly in the center

Cut into 8 wedges.
