Radler means 'cyclist' in German, and this refreshing drink was invented in Germany in the late 19th or early 20th century as a way to refresh bicyclists worn out by the summer heat. It is a 50/50 or 60/40 mixture of beer and lemonade and is a delicious addition to the menu of your summer barbeque or party.

Combine beer and lemonade in a gallon-sized pitcher.


This was so refreshing! Really similar to a British Shandy. I used fresh lemonade as that is what I had. There were no complaints except when the glass was empty!

Love this! Use wheat beer (weisbeer) for a rasser! I asked a bartender to make me one of these when I got home from Germany years ago and got a seriously dirty look. Now their all the rage just called shandy!
