Step 1
Cook the rotini pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water. Cook according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water until the pasta is completely cooled. Drain well.
Step 2
In a large bowl, whisk together the mayo, buttermilk, ranch dressing mix, garlic salt, and black pepper until smooth and well combined.
Step 3
Add the cooled pasta, diced ham, frozen peas, and diced green pepper (if using) to the bowl with the dressing. Toss until everything is evenly coated.
Step 4
Cover and refrigerate the pasta salad for at least 2 hours, or overnight. This will allow the flavors to meld together. The pasta will absorb some of the dressing as it chills.
