Slow-Cooker Mashed Potatoes

I haven't made these in this manner, but with the exception of the slow cooker and the ranch this is my mashed potato recipe. My question is why???  Why would you boil the potatoes,  mash them, add your ingredients, and then throw them in your slow cooker?  They're finished and ready to serve and all you're doing is dirtying up another item you have to wash.

Alisa - I also use this same basic recipe.  I fix my potatoes (large family, about 5 lbs. of potatoes at a time) with all the seasonings, the day before Thanksgiving.  I refrigerate them overnight then put them in the slow cooker Thanksgiving morning to warm up while I'm completing other tasks.  It sure saves me time, and they are delicious.

Loved this recipe!  I doubled it to serve 16 (5lb potatoes, 8oz cream cheese, 8oz sour cream) and made in advance, adding milk half way through the cooking time.  Rave reviews from everyone!

I\'m only giving it 4 stars, because I don\'t like all that extra stuff in my potatoes. But, I love the fact that I can get one of my side dishes done hours early. Freeing up stove space, but they\'ll still be hot, when it\'s time to eat.

mamabear-just 'mash' the potatoes-don't make mashed potatoes out of them (that's what the other ingredients will do!) If it said 'warm carrots mashed' you would just mash up the carrots (that is, smash them with a potato masher) and continue with the recipe.

I made this recipe twice over the holiday and have had requests for the recipe both times. It was excellent--easy to make and flavor-full in the eating. It is so good to have the potatoes done early and "out of the way" from the range top! I will definitely use this again.

Very easy and yummy.  I boil and mash the potatoes a day ahead of time and store in the fridge then the next day mix together and cook in crock pot as directed.

This will be a new holiday standard - easy, tasty and so convenient.

These potatoes are so insanely good, I don't think I will ever make mashed potatoes without the ranch dressing packet ever again!  That's the secret ingredient that makes these so very yummy!!!

These are great! I brought them to a potluck and told my boyfriend I'd bring him some back to try after. Needless to say that wasn't possible. I will definitely have to make these again to please the ranch lover.

I have been making this for a couple of years now, first time was for Thanksgiving and what a huge hit!  Only mistake I made was not doubling the recipe!

Can I make this up the night before and just reheat it on Thanksgiving?

For the 6 cups of mashed potatoes, I just used a 5 lb. bag of yellow potatoes. I did add a couple of things. First, instead of block cream cheese, I used 1/2 cup whipped cream cheese. I also added 1/4 tsp. of garlic powder, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/8 tsp. pepper, and 1/2 tsp. freeze-dried chives. Delicious! The best mashed potatoes I've ever made and they didn't get dried out at all in the slow cooker :-)

A real hit.  So surprised that I can make this a day or two ahead, then just reheat in the crockpot.  They still tasted like they were just made, soft and creamy.

Great Recipe!  I doubled the butter and used mayo instead of the cream cheese (I didn't have any and didn't realize it until the last minute).  I will use the mayo again! (1/2 cup).  These are awesome and got rave reviews from my entire family.  I used a full 5 lb bag of potatoes.  I also added pepper (salt in the ranch mix).  Don't forget to stir in the slow cooker every 30-45 minutes.

I made these potatoes both for Christmas Eve and again with my family Christmas day.  The first batch I made was only okay.  I followed the recipe exactly and the potatoes were really thick.  I then decided to add more flavor and cream cheese, sour cream and butter.  The flavor was really good, BUT the potatoes were really thick.  I would not make them again.
