Step 1
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry to the wet ingredients, mixing gently with a spatula until almost fully combined.

Add the M&M's and chocolate chips and gently finish mixing until the dough is smooth and no streaks of flour are visible.

Scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.

Gently press a few extra M&M's on top of each cookie, if desired, then bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are soft.

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve and enjoy!
