Name: Strawberries with Balsamic Vinegar

Ingredients: 4 pints (8 cups) fresh strawberries, sliced thick; 5 tablespoons balsamic vinegar; 2 tablespoon sugar; 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper; 2 pints vanilla ice cream, for serving; Freshly grated lemon zest, for serving

Strawberries with Balsamic Vinegar

(8 cups) fresh strawberries, sliced thick

balsamic vinegar

sugar

black pepper

vanilla ice cream,

lemon zest,

Thirty minutes to an hour before serving, combine the strawberries, balsamic vinegar, sugar, and pepper in a bowl. Set aside at room temperature.

Place a serving of the strawberries in a bowl with a scoop of ice cream on top and dust lightly with lemon zest.

I can’t believe how great this was. As always, Ina did not disappoint. Wow!!!

<div>1st &amp; foremost there's no need to use white sugar! What a silly use of the inflammatory stuff! This is a perfect recipe to use organic coconut sugar or any such substitution. I agree with others on using high quality balsamic; and I also rec'd using lemon pepper!</div><div><br /></div><div>When I serve, I serve alone with the ice cream (or fresh whipped cream) on the side as options. That way on it's own it's suitable for vegans &amp; those avoiding dairy. If you do fresh whipped cream I rec'd adding orange zest! xoxo<br /></div>

I have to admit when I first saw that the recipe called for pepper, I was a little confused. But once the flavors had a chance to meld together, I couldn’t even taste the pepper, though I still feel as though it brings something extra to the dish. I paired it with a whipped cream/marscapone mixture instead of ice cream, but I think this will be enjoyable no matter what. My husband was  blown away and I couldn’t get enough. So easy to make and it tastes amazing. If you’re looking for a simple dessert that exceeds expectations, you found it. As usual, Ina blows it out of the park.

We have been waiting years to make this and it was really good. I highly recommend using a high quality balsamic vinegar (I've had a pomegranate balsamic that I think would be perfect). My run of the mill balsamic didn't quite take it to the zenith I know this recipe could pull off. I made this in the winter and macerated the strawberries at room temperature, in the balsamic marinade and it didn't overpower the dish.<br />Looking forward to making dish again with June strawberries and pomegranate balsamic!<br />

Wonderful!! I was worried about vinegar in a dessert but this was delicious!! Served with frozen vanilla yogurt. 

This was delicious. I saw Ms. Garten make this on her show and just now tried it out. Perfect with ice-cream as odd as it seems. 

So easy!  Fabulous fresh flavors.  Served with vanilla gelato and lemon ricotta cookie.  Be sure to add the pepper and lemon zest.  Perfect ending for a heavy dinner.  Can also be a light afternoon snack.

Wow! What a surprise! I made it for my husband and didn't tell him what was in it. Kind of a, Name That Flavor test. He really liked it and could only name the lemon! Very interesting balance. PEPPER...who'd of thunk it?
