Ingredients: 2 tablespoons chile powder; 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin; 1 teaspoon kosher salt, or to taste; 1 teaspoon black pepper, to taste; 1 teaspoon cornstarch; 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (or substitute hot or sweet paprika); 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder; 1/4 teaspoon onion powder; 1/2 teaspoon crushed red-pepper flakes, or to taste

Skip the powdered, packaged stuff and make your own taco seasoning, adjusting the spices to your family's taste. The recipe below makes enough to season one pound of browned ground meat (it even works with crumbled tofu), but you can easily double or triple it and store it in airtight container so it's ready to go on a busy weeknight. 

Taco Seasoning

cumin

kosher salt,

black pepper,

cornstarch

smoked paprika (or substitute hot or sweet paprika)

garlic powder

onion powder

red-pepper flakes,

Mix all ingredients together until well combined.
