Ingredients: 4 teaspoons dried minced onion; 3 teaspoons chili powder; 1 teaspoon cornstarch; 1 teaspoon garlic powder; 1 teaspoon ground cumin; 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano; 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Our Test Kitchen developed this spicy, salt-free alternative to packaged taco seasoning. Stir it into dips or ground beef, sprinkle on chicken or wherever you want a Southwestern flair.

Taco Seasoning

onion

chili powder

cornstarch

garlic powder

cumin

oregano

cayenne pepper

In a small bowl, combine all ingredients. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 1 year.

My husband is on a low salt diet - so this is a great subsitution for the purchased mixes!

I like having this recipe, because I can control how hot I want my taco meat.  I added 4 teaspoons to ground chicken, and it was just spicy enough for my soft tacos.  My husband enjoyed this recipe.

I added 3 Tbs. to 1 lb. of ground beef, it was good but I like it a little more spicy so I added a few shakes of Mrs. Dash; Southwest Chipotle no salt seasoning. mmm good Best Taco I have had since I have been on this low sodium diet. Thank You for this recipe.  5 Stars.

I guessed and used this for one pound of meat.  I was right.  This recipe equals one store bought package.

Perfect!  I had all these spices on hand, but not a packet of taco seasoning!  Tastes just like a $1.25 packet!!

Found this recipe for taco seasonings one day when I was in the mood for tacos and had no packaged seasoning. I used 3 Tablespoons for 1 lb. of hamburger and the results were very tasty. I also liked the fact that it has less sodium than the packaged mix.

Excellent! I don't think I'll ever buy packaged taco seasoning again. I used a real onion and left out the 4 tbsp of dried minced onion. Also, I added a little more cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes to add some spice. So good!!!

I have used this recipe several times, sometimes adding salt, sometimes extra onions, sometimes extra garlic.....always tastes great, the family loves this!
