The perfect simple moody drink to serve up this Halloween…or anytime you’re in need of a good Harry Potter cocktail!

The Goblet of Fire

blackberries

gold rum ((bourbon works too))

bitters

honey

rosemary ((optional))

splash of 151 proof rum ((mine was spiced))

1. Combine the blackberries, rum, bitters, honey, and rosemary in a cocktail shaker. Muddle, squishing the berries to release the juices. Add ice and shake to combine. 2. Strain into a goblet or wine glass. Top with a splash of 151 proof spiced rum. Then using a lighter, light the drink on fire. You can sprinkle with cinnamon to ignite sparks. 3. Blow the flame out, then add a cube of ice to chill. Drink!

So I didnt have high expectations seeing this on a food blog, but it actually makes a fantastic drink. I made a bunch of these for a Goblet of Fire movie night and they were fantastic (not easy to make 6 of them in a hurry though). But this has got to be one of the better cocktails I've made.

I used frozen blackberries, which are not very sweet, but used 1/2 ounce honey syrup (half honey, half water, easier to measure and pour).
I think the flame and cinnamon is a must, somehow it really adds to the drink and gives it some extra warmth.

I tried putting some ice in the drinks beforehand because they sat low in the glasses and they do get hot if you let them, but this prevented them from lighting. I think this drink is best "up" without ice.

I used Plantation 5, Angostura bitters, and Lemonhart 151 (which is very delicious).

Honestly will probably keep this as a personal favorite cocktail.

The trick with getting it to light is to carefully float the 151 on top of the rest of the drink. Liquor has to be over 100 proof to burn, so if the 151 mixes into the rest of the drink too much, it won't light. I also wouldn't add the honey until after you've strained out the berries, or it will tend to clog your strainer. The ground cinnamon in the flames is a cool effect, but it does invite you to add way too much cinnamon, so apply judiciously. 

Also, if you find that the drink has mixed too much to ignite, you can get it flammable again with a zap in the microwave. Warming the drink will make the alcohol start to evaporate off, and the fumes will be flammable again. This will even work with 80 proof alcohol too. You will definitely need ice after doing so though if you want the drink cold.
