Name: Toffee Sauce

Ingredients: ½ cup butter; 2 cups brown sugar; 1 cup light corn syrup; 2 tablespoons water; 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk; 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

This is a great sauce for ice cream topping, or for a fruit fondue. Can also be used for topping cakes, as it thickens when it cools. Serve warm over ice cream, or place in fondue pot over low heat to keep warm and dip apples, pears, pineapple, strawberries, bananas, and orange wedges.

Toffee Sauce

brown sugar

corn syrup

water

(14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

vanilla extract

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in brown sugar, corn syrup, water and condensed milk. Cook and stir until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.


This is good and certainly a quick and acceptable substitute for the real deal made with heavy cream and sugar but with all the brown sugar corn syrup and sweetened condensed milk it is more "sweetness" than caramel-y as it should be. I let it come to a boil then boiled it gently for about 2 minutes to make sure the sugar was dissolved. Making a half recipe of this as well as a half recipe of "Hot Fudge Sauce" was perfect to use a full can of the sweetened condensed milk and both sauces complemented my homemade banana and vanilla ice creams (for Turtle Sundaes) nicely.

I stirred this constantly on medium heat and it thickened for me perfectly right as soon as it started to bubble.  My family raved about it.  WONDERFUL  Thank you for the recipe!!

this sauce was really good when it was just removed from heat but when it cooled it tasted like plain sweetened condensed milk.

Whoa baby...this is a KEEPER! Perfect for dipping caramel apples! I originally made this by cutting the recipe down and stored in the fridge as an ice cream topping. When I took it out of the fridge I noticed it had a thick consistency. Warm it up slightly in the microwave and dip apples! Great caramel/toffee taste.

I made this as a dessert fondue on New Year's Eve and it was the hit of the party! Served this with fresh bananas angelfood cake and marshmellows. Very easy & delicious.

This is very delicious and very easy.  I was looking for a caramel sauce recipe for ice cream, so I tried this and was very pleased.  It is much better than store bought and much more economical.  This is a keeper.

This was good, but it tasted more like a caramel sauce.  The kids loved it!
